Gasp

He'd given everything to the ARC.  His friend Tom had died, and then Stephen, who'd come to be like a brother to him.  At the least, he'd been his friend. Cutter had died... the pain still raw and biting to this day.  Sarah gone whilst trying to rescue them; he'd not known her as well, but that didn't lessen the impact of her loss.  She'd been bright and funny and he'd liked having her around. He'd lost a year of his life.  A year, scraping by... always hoping.

"I'm afraid we no longer need you."

He froze... couldn't breathe... betrayed.
